Offering exceptional sites in a prime location, Wooing Tree Estate is being developed alongside the iconic Wooing Tree Vineyard from which it draws its name, with vineyard owners Steve and Thea Farquharson making the decision to take their award-winning winery in a new direction.
“We have re-zoned our land to develop a boutique vineyard estate, offering opportunities for a mix of premium residential homes adjacent to our new cellar door and retail and hospitality village, which will be the beating heart of the wonderful new neighbourhood,”
“We’ve put a lot of work into the Wooing Tree brand. We don’t want to lose that prestige or importantly the grapes we are so famous for, so there will still be a significant number of vines surrounding the new sites, making this a unique offering in the market” says Steve Farquharson.
To help realise the vision for their 25ha estate, Steve and Thea engaged the help of experienced development managers Veros Property Services, who have delivered many successful property developments throughout New Zealand and are excited to be part of such an exciting project. “We believe strongly in the neighbourhood we are creating, it will be an invaluable part of the Cromwell community,” says Senior Development Manager Sean Haynes.
Although some vines will be relocated to make way for the new development, the existing character of the land will be maintained. The vineyard and its cellar door will also remain on site as a focal point of the development – as will the iconic Wooing Tree itself. An important part of Cromwell history, the Wooing Tree will take pride of place in the centre of the estate; part of a shared green space for the whole community to enjoy. This was vital to the Farquharsons, who envisioned Wooing Tree Estate as more than just a housing development.
“Wooing Tree Estate is unlike most property developments we’ve worked on,” explains Haynes. “We have put together an experienced and skilled team who can deliver an excellent, master-planned community.”
Baxter Design, the highly respected local firm of landscape architects, has been brought on board as master planners for the whole development, and also to establish a design language for the homes at Wooing Tree Estate. Baxter Design have been responsible for many high-end residential and urban design projects throughout Central Otago, including Blanket Bay, Millbrook, and Queenstown’s Village Green, as well as winning a recent ‘Outstanding Design’ award for the new Cromwell Town Centre Upgrade.
Cromwell is earmarked as an area of significant growth over the next few years. Unlike its tourism centric neighbours, Cromwell has a broad economy now recognised as the wine and stone fruit growing capital of New Zealand, a wonderful lake and the starting point for the massive cycle trail industry in Central Otago. Cromwell has really come of age, only a 50-minute drive to Queenstown and a 40-minute drive to Wanaka, its accessibility to picturesque tourist hotspots has fast made it a popular place to live, offering an ideal solution for those seeking a home in Central Otago, away from the hustle and bustle of the main centres.
With the move to get out of the big cities and head to a lifestyle destination, this new neighbourhood has attracted the interest of families from across the country as well as from expats and retirees. “The Wooing Tree Estate will be a great place to bring up kids, live and work from home remotely or retire in,” says Haynes. “This will be a special neighbourhood, surrounded by vines, green lanes and open space, and where the kids can walk to school. Where you can take a walk around the lake, go water skiing or fishing, climb a mountain, ride a mountain bike – then go out to one of a multitude of local restaurants or vineyards for dinner. It’s all right on your doorstep.”
In light of recent events, Haynes recognises that it is a testing time to be launching a new subdivision. However, this is not a normal, run-of-the-mill project, he says. “Veros Property remains focused on the long-term development of Wooing Tree Estate and although the market has created some short-term uncertainty, it hasn’t changed the enduring value of what this development and living in Central Otago offers.”
Stage 1a and Stage 1b of Wooing Tree Estate comprise 25 lots, ranging from 500sqm–1000sqm. Just released, three of these lots have already sold in the space of two days – so don’t delay, register your interest and come and live ‘the good life’ amongst the vines.
