Wine Tasting

There’s no doubt that sampling some amazing wine should be top of your list when planning a day exploring Cromwell. Get On Your Bike

Cromwell is the hub of the Central Otago region, a region full of awesome bike trails showcasing the best of the South Island. Cromwell has a few short rides of its own including the Cromwell to Bannockburn Lakeside Trail. It’s one of the easiest rides in the area and encapsulates some great scenery of Lake Dunstan, Old Cromwell Town and the Kawarau River. The ride ends at Bannockburn Bridge where you can treat yourself at the pub. Alternatively, the recently opened, Lake Dunstan Cycle Trail offers a 55km ride through unique and fascinating landscapes. This new trail provides a key link with the Otago Central Rail Trail and the Roxburgh Gorge Trail, both of which are part of Nga Haerenga – New Zealand Cycle Trails. Play A Round Of Golf

Golfing in Central Otago is all about fun in the sun, and at the same time enjoying the region’s fabulous scenery. Perfectly located on the shores of Lake Dunstan, and right across the highway from the Wooing Tree Estate, Cromwell Golf Club enjoys the reputation of being one of the best club courses on offer in the region. It is not a resort course, however it strives to be the ‘best of the rest’. Get some buddies together and battle it out on the green among pretty views of the surrounding mountains. Walk The Trails

If cycling isn’t your game, there are eight fantastic walks in the Cromwell area to make the most of. They’re a great way of taking the scenery and seeing some relic of the gold mining history. Check out the Dunstan Lakeside walks for flat and easy strolls alongside this beautiful man-made lake. Or climb high on the Old Reservoir Track that zigzags up to a former reservoir high above Lake Dunstan. And walk the Quartz-Reef Tailings, 8km from Cromwell off State Highway 8 heading to Tarras, for some interesting gold mining machinery and buildings on this 45-minute walk.

Hit The Slopes

It’s hard to mention the Cromwell lifestyle without mentioning the winter sports. Ski fields near to Cromwell enjoy fabulous scenery, fresh snow, and a fantastic range of trails, jumps and runs, catering for all skiing and snowboarding levels. There is something for everyone with the ever-reliable Cardrona, the Treble Cone views, the roller coaster terrain of Coronet Peak, or the classic The Remarkables. With 4 ski fields just over an hour’s drive away (in different directions), Wooing Tree Estate is a central spot from which you can take your pick of which slope to hit first.
